A LIGHT-GATED GARDEN ✦ ONE BEAT AT A TIME
Light one cell, or rest.

THE FIELD GUIDE

Make light arrive
at the right moment.

  1. Read the two score rows. A ring means that voice must sing; a dot means silence.
  2. Choose A, B or C to send a pulse, or Rest to let time pass. Every choice advances one beat.
  3. A wire labeled +1 · 2b carries one spark in two beats. A −1 wire carries a hush. Sparks and hushes add together on arrival.
  4. X and Y sing when their arriving total reaches their threshold. A cell that just sang needs one quiet beat to recover. A light cell also cannot fire twice in a row.
  5. Match every beat. Undo freely; “A small nudge” finds an exact continuation or tells you how far to rewind.

Keyboard: A / B / C to light, Space to rest, Backspace to undo, R to restart, H for a nudge. All studies are available from the selector.

NATURAL HISTORY, PLAYFULLY REIMAGINED

Light becomes a signal.

Inspired by the October 2026 Nobel attention around optogenetics: light can switch specially prepared nerve cells on or off. These discrete pulse rules are an invented puzzle, not a biological simulation.
